Adelynrood is blessed with the gift of land and it is our privilege to participate in practices that sustain our resources, the watersheds we are part of, and our wooded areas. We have begun a major initiative to deepen our environmental awareness and to live by green standards when possible.
We grow vegetables and herbs for the dining room and have plans to enlarge our gardening areas. We compost kitchen and dining room waste and we have started and will continue to develop a recycling program.
Our intent is that our living practices will enhance the natural flow of streams, sustain the local bird population, and enrich visitors’ experiences of Adelynrood with natural trails and quiet places for enjoying God’s creation.
Some current initiatives:
|* Our kitchen utilizes produce grown on our own property as well as local farms||* Our meals are largely prepared from scratch which avoids unnecessary packaging and processing|
* Minimal disposables are used, and when they are necessary, most are made from recycled
|* Waste is separated into single stream recycling and organic materials are separated for composting|
* High efficiency or low energy
consumption devices are a priority
|* New LED lighting in our Chapel|
|* Our fresh flowers and some foods are organically cultivated onsite||* Low flow toilets reduce water consumption|
