The Art of Listening

August 17–19 (Friday dinner–Sunday lunch)

The Art of Listening

The act of listening is nourishing and profound. When we truly listen we can honestly enter into relationships with others and with ourselves that lead to respect, dialogue, understanding, and peace. In this workshop, we will explore the sacred nature of being receptive to others in conversation, attending to our emotional, psychological, and physical being, and listening to and awareness of the Divine in both prayer and silence. Participants will be invited to reflect and practice listening in a spiritual manner and to become aware of the higher aspects of being present in a mindful way. Through experiential exercises, small and large group discussions, and meditations we will discover what it is like to listen to words and beyond words.

Dr. Marguerite Mullée, a graduate of Columbia University where she earned a doctorate in Conducting and Vocal Pedagogy, is Music Director at St. Michael’s Episcopal Church in Litchfield, Connecticut, and music consultant for Our Lady of Grace Monastery (Guilford, Connecticut). She has conducted many church and community ensembles. In 2014 she presented the annual Thomas Aquinas Lecture in Sacred Music at the University of Connecticut.
