The Meal Before Us: Food Beyond Mere Sustenance

Leaders: Adam Segal
Program includes: Lunch

Every plate of food bears a multitude of connotations, many of which often remain unexamined. Food is ritual, food is emotion, and food can be punishment or reward. At the same time, while we enjoy the luxury of abundance we often ignore what we can learn from being hungry.

We will take the time to be present with food. This day will offer an opportunity for us to reflect on our choices…to be intentional...and to focus on what our immediate senses tell us. We will briefly explore how our increased exposure to a global culture is affecting the way we eat, the food choices we make, and what changes we can expect in our food supply. Whether you cook or not, it is tremendously helpful to know what keeps us away from the kitchen and what beyond necessity continues to bring us back.

This program will give you the opportunity to taste, play with foods, express yourself in the process, and learn a few cooking tips along the way.
